How to become a friend:
The Apostles of the Interior Life(AIL), an apostolic religious community dedicated to evangelization and the interior formation of people, in their many years of apostolic experience have grown to recognize the importance, necessity, urgency, and beauty of giving spiritual assistance to their brothers and sisters.
The AIL have made numerous acquaintances over the years, many of whom have expressed a desire to collaborate with the movement of the Holy Spirit according to the same charism of the AIL. In response to such apostolic zeal for the interior life, as shown by so many of their supporters and friends, the AIL now wish to make a concrete proposal to help spread the Kingdom of God, of which Jesus speaks in the Gospel: “The Kingdom of God is within you.”
Under this premise, on August 15 of the Jubilee Year 2000, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven, the AIL gave birth to the Friends of the AIL, under the protection of Mary, Queen of the Apostles.
This document is an initial step in realizing such an association and outlines the minimum requirements for those interested in membership. Please note that these statutes may be modified according to the future development of the association.
Article 1: The Association of the AIL is open to people of all states of life: lay, consecrated, religious, and priests.
Article 2: Members of the Association should be firmly resolved to practice the following spiritual exercises, essential to interior growth: 1. One half hour of daily meditation or other form of prayer in accordance with their particular spiritual need. 2. Ten minutes of real communion after receiving the Eucharist.
Article 3: As an apostolic commitment, members must be dedicated, to the best of one’s abilities, to spreading the ideals of the interior life.
Article 4: Members ought not get discouraged when their apostolic labors do not yield immediate results, even when one’s efforts seem in vain. The kingdom of God is interior. We must plant the seed for interior growth, while the real work is accomplished by the Holy Spirit.
Article 5: Prayer and the exercise of fraternal charity must be the bond which unites all members of the association to each other and to the AIL.
Article 6: Members of the association are encouraged to beg the Master of the Harvest to send more workers; that the AIL may grow in sanctity and number so as to meet the many requests for spiritual services made by bishops, pastors, and others.
Article 7: A representative from each area must maintain contact with one of the AIL living closest to that area in order to discuss on-going formation with members of the association and also, if possible, to organize other projects and programs.
Article 8: Each district representative is to be elected by the responsible of the AIL in that area.
Article 9: Members are asked to invoke the Holy Spirit that He may inspire people willing and able to collaborate closely with the AIL in this formative apostolate, especially regarding the formation and vocational discernment of young people, so that God may raise up holy and Christian families and also authentic vocations to the consecrated religious life.
Article 10: Members of the association are encouraged at all times to maintain a spirit of communion with Ecclesiastical authority, not only with Bishops of their diocese, but also with priests, being that the spirituality of the AIL is a priestly one, as clearly stated in their charism.
